I recently went into a classroom to speak to the class about responsibility. I found a great resource on Teacher Pay Teacher from the Penelope's Portfolio  . She had amazing worksheets and lessons on different character traits and the Responsibility Unit was great. I used the book The Paperboy By Dav Pilkey and it went great with the lesson.

Excellent Classroom Guidance lesson about Listening.

I stumbled upon an awesome lesson from Music City School Counselor teaching listening skills to kindergarten students. This lesson was awesome and the kiddos loved making the listening ears. I did however add a little more to this, since I was working with first graders. I started with a picture of my drawing of Responsible Rebecca and Responsible Ralph as shown below. I went over the different body parts that we use in Active or Whole body listening:
(Each of these are on a separate little poster that I laminated and put Velcro on the back)
Eyes on Speaker
Mouth is quiet and closed
Ears are open and listening
Hands are quiet and still
Feet are quiet and still.
I used velcro on my poster to help hold each card. I then read the book "Touch the Brightest Star" by Christie Matheson. I use this particular book because it ask the reader to do and say different things throughout. As I am reading, I explain that I will be looking to see who is using their active listening skills. The kids love the book and do really well with listening and waiting to see what the book is going to ask them to do next. After I read the book, we do a review of listening skills and I play a game of Simon Says as a check for understanding. Then we do the ears activity.
Awesome video on how to make a sock puppet!
Looks very easy and pretty inexpensive to make. Two of the main reasons I love this video.
 Bob and Bogart
Please visit the above website...Bob Votruba and his message about kindness is awesome. He and his dog Bogart visited the school where I work and the kids loved his message.
